RHASS launched the first Local Show Engagement Fund in 2023, providing much-needed support for local and regional agricultural shows across Scotland. The £30,000 grant was created to help Scottish agricultural shows recover and thrive following the significant financial challenges of the past few years. The support also provided the potential to deliver projects that may have previously felt out of reach, allowing regional shows to plan for a sustainable future. In total, 21 local shows received funding for the 2023 season.
The wide range of Scottish agrishows are vital to Scotland’s agricultural heritage. A key calendar moment for rural communities across Scotland, they also contribute to local economies and provide a place for farmers to come together and connect. We’re proud that this fund has allowed shows to make important updates and fortify themselves for the future.
The funding was used across a wide variety of improvement projects, including the installation of a permanent WiFi connection within the Turriff Show showground, the fitting of pedestrian barriers around the main ring area of the Stirling Agricultural Show, and improvements to the Kirriemuir Show’s education marquee.
