The RHASS 2025–26 Aberdeenshire Presidential Initiative (PI) has helped to raise an outstanding £290,000 for three charitable organisations in a boost to Scotland’s agricultural community and future generations.

The fundraising efforts of the PI, led by RHASS President Pat Machray and supported by Vice-Presidents Robert Lovie, Dave Green, Robert Maitland, Anna Mitchell and Chaplain Ken MacKenzie, brought together support from across the agricultural sector and wider community through a programme of fundraising events. These efforts culminated in the presentation of funding awards at this year’s Royal Highland Show with cheques distributed to three beneficiaries:

  • £123,000 to the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC), supporting its ambitious Big Build campaign to create a new national centre at Ingliston.
  • £81,000 to RSABI, the charity dedicated to providing practical, emotional and financial support to people in Scottish agriculture.
  • £86,000 to RHASS to contribute towards the development of a new cattle washing facility at the home of the Royal Highland Show, the Royal Highland Centre.

As well as helping to fundraise a phenomenal amount, the PI’s campaign for Aberdeenshire highlighted the contribution of the north-east of Scotland to agriculture, food and drink production, tourism, education, heritage, health and the whisky industry, while strengthening connections across rural communities.

Pat Machray, RHASS President, said:

“This achievement reflects the tremendous generosity, commitment and community spirit that exists across Scotland’s rural sector. It has been a privilege to work alongside our Presidential Team, volunteers, sponsors and supporters to raise funds that will make a lasting difference to the very deserving organisations.”

David Tennant, Head of Show for RHASS, said:

“We are immensely grateful to the Presidents’ Initiative team for their contribution, enthusiasm and partnership, particularly our President, Pat. His commitment throughout his tenure has been exceptional, and Aberdeenshire’s presence at the Show was a fitting celebration of the region’s people, produce, heritage and agriculture. From marking the 150th anniversary of the Aberdeen Angus breed to showcasing local food, outdoor pursuits and traditional culture, the north-east was represented at its very best. The success of the Show depends on the dedication of people like Pat and all those who support the Presidents’ Initiative, and we thank them for their hard work and commitment.”
